On this episode of the On The Rise Podcast, host Jeremy Dyer sits down with Coach JV, CEO of 3T Warrior Academy and co-author of the bestselling book American Nightmare: How Debt and Inflation Stole the American Dream. JV shares how he left a VP banking role, failed in business five times, and lost nearly everything in 2020 before building a system-based approach to wealth. The conversation covers why the traditional financial playbook is failing, how inflation quietly erodes purchasing power, the difference between investing and speculating, fear-based financial thinking, universal basic income, and the first moves to make if you feel behind. A candid look at shifting from consumer to owner.
1. Build systems, not hype.
After five business failures and a pandemic shutdown, JV stopped chasing hype and built a repeatable investing system based on macroeconomic conditions and inflation.
2. This isn’t your grandparents’ economy.
With record national debt and elevated bond yields, the old playbook of a 30-year mortgage and a long auto loan leaves many people trapped in scheduled payments.
3. Inflation is a silent pay cut.
One of JV’s students earned $30,000 more than in 2020 yet felt more broke. Like a frog in boiling water, inflation quietly erases raises.
4. Move from paying interest to earning it.
Consumers pay interest on debt while owners earn it. Shift part of your income toward assets that hold value and produce cash flow.
5. Rethink the rent-versus-own math.
JV rents in his dream neighborhood while renting out the home he owns, investing the down payment instead. In a high-rate environment, ownership strategy has to change.
6. Know investing from speculating.
He lost money on speculative tokens early on. Now he evaluates utility, who’s behind an asset, whether it will last, and how it has survived bear markets.
7. Fear comes from having no plan.
Without a thesis, people FOMO in on the way up and panic sell on the way down. A principle-based system lets you buy when others run.
8. Start with a budget, then build cash flow.
If you feel behind, create a budget, cut car payments, build income outside your job, and invest patiently. JV now lives on 15% of his income and invests the rest.
